Why I Love My Job

1. I Get to Learn About People's Hopes and Goals

I believe in my heart that everyone aspires to something in life. Each one of us wants to feel valued and meaningful in some way. Through my job, I get to hear about people’s goals and aspirations. I am allowed a peep inside their world, and I truly feel very grateful that so many people have trusted me with this information. If you think about it for a second – there definitely is a certain level of vulnerability that any one of us would feel when opening up to someone about where they see themselves in the future and their dreams. I get to listen to those goals and then I get to put myself in their shoes and craft their resume, with the hopes to help them take the next step in making their dreams a reality.

2. I Get to Help People See the Best Version of Themselves

I am aware that many people feel uncomfortable talking about themselves, let alone writing about themselves. It can certainly be hard at times to verbalize why you might stand out from the crowd or why you would be so valuable for an organization. Many job seekers get on the phone and tell me, “I don't like to sound like that, it feels like I am bragging about myself…” I go ahead and stop them. Because a resume is your chance to show a potential employer that you are fantastic! Therefore, it's always so fun when a client receives their final resume or cover letter and says, “Oh wow! This is me? Seriously?” It’s not about beautification in this regard. Instead, it’s purely about considering a person’s experiences through a fresh perspective and helping them realize that they really are unique!

3. I Get to Help People Build Confidence

Job searches are scary whether you are a recent college graduate or have fifteen years of experience and are ready to take the next step in your career. However, talking through some worries or insecurities with a resume writer like myself can be a confidence booster . These conversation can help a person organize their thoughts, identify strengths, and even be able to discover and address weaknesses prior to going into an interview.

4. I Get to Witness Success and Happiness

“Happiness comes when your work and words are of benefit to yourself and others.” This quote by Buddha really resonates with me. I have always believed that my purpose is to make a positive difference in the lives of others. My passion is helping others and to be of service. I think there's no greater joy nor reward than to make a difference in someone's life and to earn success based on service to others. My clients reach out to me to update me on their job search process. I get to hear  so many exciting things! I think it is one of the most rewarding things in the world to hear, “Lara, thank you so much, I got many call backs and scored 2 interviews, and then landed a job. I couldn't have done it without you!” Seriously, nothing compares to being a part of someone's success story and knowing you've contributed to their happiness.
